Dubai, 25th July
India’s Harleen Deol and Jemimah Rodrigues improved significantly in the ICC women’s player rankings for batters. This happened after their impressive performances in the recently finished series against Bangladesh.
India and Bangladesh both had an equal result after the last match of their series ended in a tie under disputed circumstances.
In the final ODI, Deol moved up 32 spots to 51st place because she was the best player. Rodrigues also moved up 41 spots to 55th place because she scored 86 points in the second ODI and helped her team win.
In the final match, Deol was the highest scorer for India with 77 runs. After the match, captain Harmanpreet Kaur criticized the on-field umpires during the awards ceremony.
Kaur will likely get in trouble with the ICC for her angry outburst and breaking the equipment by hitting the stumps with her bat after being called out.
Deepti Sharma, an experienced player, is the only Indian in the top 10 bowlers. She is ranked ninth. Another player, Sneh Rana, has moved up three places and is now ranked 38th.
Last Tuesday, Natalie Sciver-Brunt, an all-rounder from England, achieved the highest ranking as a batter for the first time. She did this by scoring a century that led her team to win the final ODI match against Australia in Taunton.
Sophie Sciver-Brunt scored 129 runs in the game, and she also scored 111 runs in the game before that. Because of these scores, she is now ahead of Beth Mooney from Australia. She is now further ahead in the all-rounders’ rankings. She leads by 39 rating points over Hayley Matthews, who is the captain of West Indies.
Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner has moved up two places to a career-high third position in the all-rounders’ list. She has also achieved her highest rankings in batting and bowling.
Gardner moved up to 21st place among batters after scoring 41 runs in Taunton. He also moved up to fifth place among bowlers after taking three wickets for 39 runs, which was his third three-wicket haul.
Other players who have improved their rankings after the series are Danni Wyatt from England (moved up three places to 18th) and Australia’s Tahlia McGrath (moved up two places to 32nd) as batsmen, and England’s Charlie Dean (moved up two places to 13th) as a bowler.
The recent update shows that Fargana Hoque and Nahida Akter from Bangladesh achieved new successes.
Hoque has the highest rating points among women batters in Bangladesh. She is the first woman from her country to reach the top 20, ranking 19th. This happened after she scored 107 runs in the tied final One-Day International (ODI) match in Mirpur.
In February 2017, the highest ranking achieved was Rumana Ahmed’s 25th position. Left-arm spinner Akter took three wickets for 37 runs in the final ODI. This helped her move up to the 19th position in the bowling rankings.
In December 2022, Salma Khatun, a bowler from Bangladesh, achieved the 20th position, which was the best ranking for a bowler from Bangladesh before that time.
