Karachi, July 21
Former Pakistan captain and all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez is expected to become the national team’s chief selector after the team finishes their current tour of Sri Lanka.
According to sources, the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s Cricket Management Committee (CMC), Zaka Ashraf, has a preference for Hafeez to be appointed as the chief selector. This position has been empty since the previous CMC was dissolved in June.
Zaka spoke to Rashid Latif and Hafeez about becoming chief selector. Rashid didn’t want the job, but Hafeez said he was available for it, according to the source. Can you please provide the text that needs to be rewritten in simple words.
Rashid was really focused on working on matters to stop corruption. Hafeez, who played a lot of cricket matches for Pakistan before retiring, wants to take on the role of the chief selector.
Haroon Rasheed used to be a part of a group called CMC led by Najam Sethi. Now, he has been appointed as the chairperson of a new selection committee. This committee also includes the team director, Mickey Arthur, and the head coach, Grant Bradburn.
The source said that since the previous CMC is no longer in place, Haroon Rasheed is technically no longer the chairperson of the selection committee.
The source said that Ashraf had not yet decided whether to change the whole selection committee, which was made by Sethi with the help of Mickey Arthur, or just pick a new head selector instead of Rasheed.
The whole selection committee probably won’t be replaced because the Pakistan team has a busy schedule after the Sri Lanka tour. Afghanistan has also confirmed an ODI series in Sri Lanka in August before the Asia Cup.
Ashraf has also decided to make more changes for the Pakistan team. He is thinking about hiring a new team manager and media manager for the Asia Cup and the World Cup India.
“Naveed Akram Cheema, who was previously a manager, is a good candidate to become the team manager soon instead of Rehan ul Haq,” the person with insider knowledge stated.
The new CMC has been tasked with organizing new elections for regional associations, bringing back departmental teams, and forming a new board of governors who will choose a new chairman. They have already begun making changes to the board’s structure.
