Gyaneshwari Yadav won the women’s 49kg gold medal at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships today because Mirabai Chanu was not able to compete.
Chhattisgarh’s Gyaneshwari achieved their highest scores in both the snatch and the clean and jerk sections. Gyaneshwari lifted a total of 176kg, which was made up of 78kg and 98kg weights combined. This impressive lift allowed her to win first place on the podium. She successfully defended herself against a challenge from her fellow countrywoman, Jhilli Dalabehera. Jhilli won her second silver medal at the event by lifting a total of 169kg (75kg + 94kg).
India’s Mukund Aher won the male 55kg category gold medal by lifting a total weight of 239kg, with 106kg in the snatch and 133kg in the clean and jerk. Ashikur Rahman Taj from Bangladesh earned the second-place prize by lifting a total weight of 207kg (92kg in his first attempt and 115kg in his second attempt).
Komal Kohar from India won first place in the women’s 45kg event during the morning session.
