Roger that? Carlos Alcaraz lives up to billing

On July 4th, Carlos Alcaraz, the top-seeded Spaniard, became the primary threat to Novak Djokovic’s quest for an eighth Wimbledon title. He beat Jeremy Chardy 6-0 6-2 7-5 on No. 1 Court despite the match being played under the roof due to rain. Alcaraz expressed his desire to have Roger Federer watch one of his matches, as Federer is an eight-time Wimbledon champion who has retired from the sport. Princess Kate, the Princess of Wales, was at a rainy Wimbledon and sat in the royal box next to Federer. Defending champion Elena Rybakina recovered from a set down to beat American Shelby Rogers 4-6 6-1 6-2 on Centre Court. Ons Jabeur, the sixth-seeded Tunisian, also began her quest for a maiden Grand Slam title with a 6-3 6-3 victory over Poland’s Magdalena Frech. Several more matches have been postponed due to the inclement weather. Sir Andy Murray lifted the gloom with a virtuoso performance, beating Ryan Peniston 6-3 6-0 6-1. Lastly, Roger Federer received a standing ovation of one-and-a-half minutes from spectators including Princess Kate as he entered the Royal Box at Centre Court, where he was celebrated for his career and his men’s-record eight singles championships at Wimbledon.
