Ajit Agarkar named chairman of BCCI selection committee

Today, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that former India fast bowler Ajit Agarkar has been appointed as the chairman of the selection committee. This comes after the initial selection committee, led by Chetan Sharma, was dismissed in November following India’s semifinal exit from the T20 World Cup in Australia. Sharma was reappointed earlier this year but resigned in February in light of a sting operation where he made a number of allegations. Agarkar was most recently a coach with the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, but left after the conclusion of this year’s tournament. The Cricket Advisory Committee interviewed applicants for the position and unanimously recommended Agarkar, based on the total number of Test matches he had played. He will join Shiv Sundar Das, Subroto Banerjee, Salil Ankola and Sridharan Sharath on the selection committee.
